We're mad because it's one more complication, one more indignity we have to endure in order to civilize the savages.

I won't fly anymore because of stuff like that. Why? Because it's a false solution to make them look like they're doing something for our safety while it is getting people conditioned to fewer rights. They still don't screen the airport personal enough for who has direct access to the luggage and the planes. They have been smuggling drugs and arms and still find illegal aliens as employees. I guess it's because I live near a major airport I hear all the insane stories and it's not passengers who appear to be the problem with any breech of security. I wouldn't mind if the obvious was taken care of first.......and secure.....but it's not. I wouldn't feel "safe" if they made everyone fly naked, as long as they keep ignoring the areas of real threat.

It's just a band-aid symptom reminds us what a poor job our government has done at getting to the root of the problem, much less eradicating it once and for all.
A sign of failure
It's like supplying everyone with body armor when a serial killer is on the loose, and making a half-hearted unfocused effort to catch the killer, but never catching him.

Because Americans are all about freedom. Which, many of us have been taught, means that we have the right never to be told what to do, or to be inconvenienced, or to be suspected.
Unfortunately, these are not rights that can be held by all people at once. For example, if I have the right not to be inconvenienced by having to wait in a grocery store line, and you have the same right, well, who has to be second in line? Problems.
Look it up. No one said you had the right to be happy. You're garaunteed the right to pursue happiness. And all your rights end at the point where they violate those of others. (For example, free speech doesn't mean you can call me at all hours of the night with threats or obscene language.)
The thing is, we forget others have rights (like to feel as safe as possible), and that sometimes theirs do supercede ours.

No I am just a little confused as to why they search my shoes but still let me board a flight with two lighters and three books of matches.

The Ameican people are always in a rush....they have no patience....I have Airport Security through Continental A/L I and the Flight crew are subject to the same security.
If something happened, on a flight, they would be the first to whine...should have better security

I generally don't wear socks when I travel (unless it's on the way back from a meeting). I don't like being barefoot on their nasty floor, and it takes more hassel getting everything through and out of the way, particularly if you are traveling with children.
On the other hand, I support doing it, anyhow.

It's the first step towards forcing everyone to strip naked and spread their cheeks. If you give an inch, you give authority for them to take all.
It's called Ling Chi - Death of a Thousand Cuts.

Taking off the shoes at the airport is for the safety of the all the passengers in order that no explosive device is introduced into the aircraft.

No. Just hard to figure how this makes us safer when they still don't x-ray all cargo the way they should. Seems like something to keep us busy so we think they're doing lots to make us safer.
