In the show "Friends" is the main apartment building above Central Perk?

I'm not sure if it's directly downstairs. They never have said. But they do say they are going "down to the coffeehouse" and sometimes they ask where the others are, and they do say "upstairs." So possibly it is.

Not directly above the building but very close by, infact Joey counted 97 steps from the apartment to the inside of the shop.

Yes it is in their building and before it became a coffee house it was a bar.The whole history of the bar becoming a coffee house was on a show about how things would have been if they had made different choices in the past.Funny episode and I hope this info helps.The 97 steps to the coffee shop was Joey counting the steps from his apt. down the stairs to it.

no its not.
because i remember one eppy where joey (Matt) came in central perk counting
and chandler (Mathew) asked him what he was counting for
joey told him he was counting how many steps there are between the apartment and central perk
chandler told him he had a lot of time on his hands
i also normally see them going to their apartment by taxi

I think so. . . I guess I never thought about it. . .I think in the final episode they all went downstair to the coffee shop and it went off. . .of course I could be wrong. . . Its been known to happen.
