Our relationship with France and Germany is somewhat strained to beigin with and the war only made it worse. The percentage of Muslims in Europe is significantly larger than the United States and so public sentiment in Europe was negative about the war. France backed out (or did not support)of the Iraq War and condemned the United States - that made matters worse.

Well as far as France goes, ask them why in I think 84 they would not allow our F-111's flying from Germany to bomb Kadassi to fly over their country. Ask why every time a vote comes up in the security council they fight us at every turn. They actually never have been an allie. We saved their butts in both world wars and all they have done is basically say screw you. They consider themselves superior to us and much more morel then us. But if something happens to them we are the first country they call. They are no allie so there has been no affect to our relationship.

The French are allies in name only.
We're battling them, and not always winning, on the business front (e.g. Airbus vs Boeing, Sextant vs Honeywell, Garmin vs Magellan, etc.), scientific research front, as well as the culture front.

France has not voted with the US since the end of WW 2. It is so unfortunate that the French forget their roots so easily.
