I really, really want to become a doctor but im in higschool right now and im doing somewhat "ok" just about the "average level" mostly B's but some C's =/. Can you go to any college and go to medical school from there and become a doctor? or does it have to be like stanford, harvard, yale, cornell, etc.? what would be the best thing to study in college to get ready?

Several schools less prestigious than Harvard, Yale, etc. have medical schools but not all of them. Getting into medical school is extremely competative. Medical schools often have thousands of applicants and will allow less than 200 into the program at a time. Therefore average level grades will not do in most cases. Fortunately you have time to work harder and your high school grades will not matter much compared to your grades as an undergraduate in college. You will want to strive for a perfect grade point average if you want to be a doctor. The pre-medical curriculum that most Medical Schools will require you take during your undergraduate work will be very challenging as well from multiple disciplines (Calculus, Anatomy, Physiology, Genetics, Physics, Non-Organic and Organic Chemistry, ...to name a few). If you can master those sorts of subjects and maintain a near perfect grade point average then you have to take the MCAT and score better than 90% of the other people that have made it this far. If you are fortunate enough to make it in, you will have 4 years of unbelievably grulling academic and clinical work in volumes that you could not possibly imagine right now. If you are able to graduate, then you will have a residency for 3-7 years (depending on a specialty if applicable) in which you will work as a Dr. for peanuts (compared to full fledge Dr.s) and for more hours in a day then you could think possible under any realistic labor law.

In short...yes, it is very hard. If you trully want to take this path, you will need to prepare yourself to make a commitment for the number of years you've been in school already all over again and start working twice as hard as you have been thus far to attain greatness from average.

Are you getting B's and C's because you don't try very hard, or is this the best you can do? Medicine is probably the most difficult thing you can study. And to get accepted into medical school, you must have mostly A's in college. You have to be willing to work. The best thing to major in is the biological sciences. Talk with your high school guidance counselor to find the best college in your area for pre-med, and then by the time you're about through with that, you'll be better prepared to pick a medical school. Usually, you apply to several and hope that you get accepted to at least one of them. And start working harder now in high school. Good luck.

Well, you are already on your way to becoming a doctor just by saying you want to be one. My best friend is a doctor and she worked her butt off after highschool to become one. You have to start getting mostly A's especially in math and science--Then you have to study "pre-med" in college and get almost straight A's. You dont have to go to Harvard, but there are many good medical colleges out there. Then in college you have to take this exam, I think its called the M-Cat--and only if you pass that exam, you can go to medical school. But if you fail it, you can not go. So you really have to start being serious Right Now so you can make it.

You need to meet with your highschool Guidance Councelor in the next 2 weeks and ask them to help you go to a good college to study "pre-med".

It is great that you have aspirations for higher education and a professional career.

However, not all colleges have medical degree programs and you may have trouble even getting into universities that have medical programs unless you have top grades. Then, even if you get accepted in a university with medical program, you may not make it in. Then you have at least six years of grueling science courses that you also have to continue to get top marks in, then more years in training/residency and such.

I suggest that a shorter way that is more sure is to become a medical technician. You can operate MRI machines and stuff, and can get the proper training at many vocational schools and colleges.
