Often because they have to make concessions for safety, price, or ergonomics so many elements of concept cars are unable to enter production.
But producing a car line is not like building a prototype. Now they have to design an entire factory to build a new model line. It is a heck of a risk, so car companies make sure they have something a lot of people want to buy before they go that far.

A concept car is there by the designers just to get the idea out there without forking over millions and millions of $. After all it costs a lot of money to retool a factory just for an idea. All theyr'e looking for is public approval for said idea. The concept car that later became the Mustang was pretty cool, but the Mustang was a watered down version of that concept car, which the name escapes me right now. But I hope you get the idea behind the concept car.

automobile companies use concept automobiles to gauge shopper reaction, show off new technologies, and earnings exposure. some examples of concept automobiles that made production on some point, The Plymouth Prowler, Chevy SSR, and avert Viper. regardless of the undeniable fact that they not often make it to production without some modifications or loss of constructive factors.

This has always been part of the Design and Marketing process... Just because you might buy it one buyer is not what they have to shoot for they have to sell enough to be profitable....
They have to test the market and then research and refine it out... The manufacturers can't afford to Make the Ford mistake again (pun on 4 letter word and a poke at Ford for one of the biggest marketing faux paus ever) "The Famous Edsel"
but look at the proto types of many other 50's to 70's cars for fun examples

they do not produce most of concept cars either because they think that no one will buy the car. Or the industry denies the design due to safety problems or gas efficiency.
Thats a pretty sweet car you should definatly get that!

Because it cost a fortune to make by hand and has features that are "Oh wow." but can't be translated to a manufacturing process.
