NOOOOO.... there is an embedded code of morals within every human.. truly think about it... every country, civilization, or tribe there has been laws that govern their society and they all basically consist of no rape, no murder, no theft, etc.

Morality has been created empirically based on the experience of past generations. Various cultures and
beliefs have shaped the moral code. For example in ancient
Egypt people believed that after death their soul will be put on the scales and if there was too much evil devoured by a
monster. I believe most people have a sense of good and bad based on their upbringing, religion, education and firsthand observations.

No, true morality comes from the higher self, which is what we really are. The morality that is taught by culture has very little to do with true morality. True morality has nothing whatsoever to do with things like swearing, or having sex before marriage, or sexual orientation, or smoking, or any of those kinds of things. True morality only asks, What would love do? or What would kindness do? or What would compassion do? or What would empathy do? or What would tolerance do? *sm*

Good question, and "yes" I think morality comes from conscience (or our sense of self) and that is what separates us from other animals while morality is still subjective but not without some universal truths (like human rights; tho that is somewhat subjective too) if one can escape the influence of ones culture they could see this. So culture shapes or even exploits morality, but it stems from something deeper and that something is intrinsic, while morality is not. It is because we are capable of morality that we are different from other creatures.

(sorry I changed it from my original post, but I think you are looking for a specific answer that differs from mine, but I still like the question)

Good question. I actually think that the "Golden Rule" is somewhat innate. There are babies that cry when they witness violence occur to a third party. It just takes some time to realize that getting hit with a hammer hurts the other being in the same way it hurts you.
After that, you probably need some parental/cultural coaxing to embrace your compassionate side more than your aggressive/selfish side.

No........morality or personal ethics of all cultures from time zero is driven by FEAR. this is the source of morality/ethics. We fear "God" and what he can do to us. We formed communities because we feared those across the river.... we get married because we fear being alone. We work hard because we fear being broke. Teenagers follow along because of the fear of rejection. We fear our parents......
(Many times what we call love is fear like towards our parents or to our mate.)
(This is an expansion of Hobbs idea of self-preservation theory of the source of ethics).
