Just be very patient with them and let them have fun. Most t-ballers are more interested in playing in the dirt than ball so watch out for their safety.

Generally the T-ball age is 5 or 6, so I think it's appropriate that sportsmanship is the focus. In my son's T-ball experience every player on the team was allowed to bat each inning (3 innings total). In other words, you don't stop when you get to 3 outs. Early in the season, players hit off the tees exclusively, while later in the season the coaches would pitch 3-4 balls to each batter, and only if they missed those pitches would the boy then hit off the tee. This gave the boys the opportunity to advance their skills and get used to hitting without the aid of the tee. In addition to sportsmanship there should be a focus on BASIC fielding techniques, positioning on the field, etc. You wouldn't believe how many boys at that age have trouble even figuring out which base to run to. As far as coaching tips: Have fun! Help the boys have fun. But insist on the boys showing respect for you and any other coaches, umpires, etc. 5-6 years old is absolutely not too early to expect them to behave like young men. Good luck! I'm coaching my son's 3rd grade basketball team right now and it is both challenging and very rewarding.

t-ball is a young age so try to get some interesting training equipment that can keep the little kids interested. At the end of practices do relays around the bases, my younger brothers do that and they love to end the practice like that. Also just be really encouraging and try not to yell. Since they are so little you don't want to ruin their self esteem. As long as you teach them skills and how to love the game you'll do fine.
