Jonathan Edwards was credited with starting the "Great Awaking" in religion in the colonies. The churches had become very stale and were not doing missionary work of any type. Besides being very well educated, he was a very charismatic speaker that stirred the minds and souls of those who heard him.

He, along with George Whitefield (sometimes spelled Whitfield) did more to return religion to a significant part of peoples lives.

There is a very good short biography at the website for the Jonathan Edwards Center, housed at Yale Divinity School. (Yale was his alma mater.) The second site is the Edwards entry in the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy.

Calling Edwards "the greatest preacher" is probably not a good idea, unless you have facts to back up that statement. By all of the accounts that I've read, though, he was a notable orator and evangelist.

I'm not sure what you mean by "the significance of his struggle for history???" If you elucidate, I will be happy to try to answer your question.

You can search the web for many more websites. There is a plethora of information on the man.
