you don't have to wait until your baby is 6 months old to start feeding him cereal or baby food. I started feeding my son stage 1 baby foods at 4 months by spoon. Alot of mothers put rice cereal in the bottle to help fill up the baby. I did this because my baby had reflux ( spitting up alot) and it helped his milk to stay down. If your baby seems ready for food then you can start at 4 months, the doc will tell you this. You have to feed one food at a time because of possible allergies. If he's doing good with his formula or breast milk and doesn't seem ready for food then wait until 6 months. Discuss with pediatrician. Remember all babies are different, you have to do what is right for YOUR baby.

At my baby's 4 month well visit my doctor gave me a paper on starting solids. She said I could start them then or wait until 6 months. I started at 5 months. Here is word for word what my doctor gave me:

Three meals per day
2-4 ounces per meal
Use a spoon
Every three days add a new food to the food "arsenal"
If diarrhea or rash occur, skip to the next food

Start with rice cereal; mix with formula, breastmilk, or water
After three days of plain old boring rice cereal, mix with half formula, half apple juice
peas
spinach
green beans
avocado - won't come in a jar, just roll on countertop, pop the pit out, dinner's ready

carrots
squash
sweet potato
corn - comes out in poop, just like older kids and adults

fruits - including but not limited to apricot, peaches, pears, prunes, plums
avoid citrus and red berries until 9 months
banana last - baby won't want anymore peas and spinach

Nothing at this age, you really shouldn't start solids until your baby is at least 6 months of age to reduce the risk of allergies. You can start with rice cereal (I recommend homemade rice cereal) or with foods like avocado, banana, and peeled, sliced grapes (they're easy to gum.) If you're at all interested in making your own baby food, I suggest the book "Super Baby Food" by Ruth Yaron. Don't use the meal plan (it's way too much food for a toddler, let alone an infant!) but it has a lot of practical advice and tips on how to make your own baby food.

Rice cereals, real mushy food or bought tins baby food from the supermarket. Everyone says nothing till at least 6 months. Thats crap, if you want to feed your bub now go for it, I've been feeding mine since 4 months and the hospital and GP's said thats fine , if they want to eat then they will.

As tempting as it is, feeding a baby anything other than breast milk or formula at that age isn't a good idea. Wait until he/she is at least 6mo old. My daughter didn't like rice cereal or normal baby food. I tried introducing it every month until she was 1. She never liked any of it. I actually waited until she was 1 year old and just fed her soft foods like deli meat, cheese, fruit, steamed veggies, etc...
Eventhough I skipped all the Gerber jarred foods, my daughter is just as healthy if not healthier than other 2yr olds and she's taller than all of them.

The advice varies so widely that you really should talk to your doctor. He or she can help you make the decision about what is best for YOUR baby and his or her development. Your baby's age, size, development and the amount of milk he or she is currently eating may factor into the decision.

Your pediatrician can also offer advice about first foods and the advice may vary based on your baby's age, health and family history of allergies. Single grain cereals are often recommended first, but bananas are also sometimes a good first choice.

Only breastmilk or formula until he is 6 months old.

Then you can begin solid foods. Many people start with rice cereal. La Leche League actually recommends mashed bananas, avocados or sweet potatoes instead.

Use only one cereal at a time for a few days to check for allergies. Slowly add veggies, don't use all orange ones or your child will get an orange tint to their skin after a while believe it or not. Alternate orange and green veggies before giving fruit, otherwise your child will not want to eat veggies at all.

still stick to the milk formula, try giving minute quantity of soft food like cereals or scrapings from fruits like banana at around 5- 6 months if tolerated,

Absolutely nothing but breastmilk or formula, at 6 months of age you can start introducing cereal, but your best action is to ask your pediatrician. (I used to let my son suck on oranges when he was tiny..he loved it..not a lot..just a little..but I'm not a doctor...lol) GL!
