I went to Las vegas to visit family, and they told us we cant drink their rap water, we have to buy the gallons. I live in Chicago, where we are able to drink tap water.

Orlando water is just fine. In town, most people are on city water--which is purified and mildly chlorinated / fluoride-enhanced from what I understand. Some areas may taste a little funny, depending on the pipes in the house and all, but it's perfectly safe to drink. I've occasionally used a Brita pitcher to skim any funny flavor out in some apartments I lived at.

In rural areas, many people use artesian well water. Filters are in place to make the water safe, but it still may have a mildly sulphur smell (due to the mineral deposits it passes through on the way up from the aquifer). Again, perfectly safe to drink.

I would NOT recommend drinking water out of any lakes or streams. While the spring fed rivers are pretty clean at the source, I just wouldn't trust the majority of Florida lakes as a safe drinking source without iodine tablets and boiling.

After hurricanes, sometimes boil-water-advisors are issued for areas sustaining damage to water mains. This is uncommon and shouldn't be an issue if you're just coming for a short tourist visit.

Don't forget, a lot of your common bottled waters (such as Zepherhills) originate in Florida. We have good water here! =)

Generally, bottled water is a scam. It's usually the same thing that comes out of the tap, and it's bad for the environment because of all the non-decomposable plastic bottles. HOWEVER... I went to Tochigi when I was there, which is a perfecture about 3 hours north of Tokyo. The water in Tokyo is crystal clear, but the water in Tochigi (which is kind of country), was white when it came out of the tap. The Japanese place a lot of importance on the quality of their civil structures, so if you're in a city like Kyoto or (especially) Tokyo, I'm sure you'll be alright.

Yes, Orlando's water is perfectly drinkable since it comes from Florida's natural aquifers. I live locally and personally prefer bottled water because of the taste, but tap water is fine if you dont mind the taste.

The tap water in apartments and homes in Central FL is just fine, however I will say that the tap water found in hotels here does taste funny and tends to be a bit smelly too.

I will disagree with everyone above. We have gone on vacation in Orlando 4 times in the past 2.5 years. The water taste just like sulfer. It is go bad that you can taste it in a fountain soda drink. We always bring or buy bottle water---even to brush our teeth!!!! The water is soooooooooooooooooo bad.

Orlando water is drinkable, however if you should decide to visit Tampa I would recomend bottled water because the tap tasted metalic when I used to live there.
