Try reading a book before bed - that will tire your eyes and no scary stories as that won't help. The more boring it is the better. Try having some warm milk or a warm bath as well - that can help.

Also don't worry about taking long to fall asleep. Sleep is supposed to be the most natural thing for the human body so just relax and you will eventually fall asleep.

And yes it would also help not watching anything scary before bedtime. You know what part of the problem is so fix that.

Find a routine that doesn’t involve scary stuff. Relax before you go to bed. Take a hot bath with candlelight and soft music (no rap or heavy medal). Make sure that you have clean sheets do relaxation exercises.
• Like lay in bed flat on your back
• Tighten each muscle in your body.
• Now relax the muscles one at a time. Concentrate on relaxing the muscles one set at a time. Start at the toes, then ankles, thigh… work your way up to your head. As you relax each muscle they should feel heavy
• Empty your mind of all other thoughts.
• Allow yourself to relax more and more deeply.
There are hypnotic cd’s that you can play to walk you thru these relaxation exercises.

Good luck and good night.

First of all, avoid things that might keep you up: coffee, tea, and other stimulants. Avoid things that "freak" you out too. Why are you looking at things that make it hard to fall asleep? You're just asking to stay up longer. You can go to your local drug store and get melatonin. Ask the pharmacist for help if you need to. Melatonin is a natural hormone in the body that regulates your sleep cycle. Try this before taking more drastic measures like prescription sleep aids.

Get as comfortable, make sure the room is a temperture that makes you fall asleep, don't drink anything with caffine two to three hours before you go to sleep, try to have the room as quiet as possible, make sure there aren't any loud smelling scents, andyourmind is clear just relax , stimulating actives before going to sleep will only keep you awake.
If you are having a really hard time sleeping go see a doctor.

OK, stop looking at the scary stuff. Try to go to sleep at the same time each day & use your bed only for sleep (or other things that require the bed) - no TV. Try a bedtime routine - get ready for bed, maybe read something (NOT scary) to wind down.

Stop looking at scary stuff, it obviously doesn't help! If that still doesn't work, you can try sleeping pills, OTC or doctor prescribed. If you don't want to try pills, there's a tea by Celestial Seasonings called "Sweet Dreams", this helps a lot. If all else fails, try counting sheep!

IT really depends on how you handle scary stuff. If you realize its just a picture you are looking at and not reality then you should go to sleep.
Try a cup od warm milk with honey in it before you retire and count sheep.

You may have a sleep disorder. You can go to a doctor and he may suggest bio-feedback for relaxation techniques so you can turn your mind off and relax and start getting a good nights sleep.
