Hi, I'm a self-publishing writer; not very profitable, I know, but I love it! Just out of curiosity, if you enjoy writing, either as a career or a hobby, how prolific are you?
I completed a 61 chapter (844 page) novel in about a year and a half. I consider 400-600 words to be a satisfactory day's work, and it usually takes me three weeks to a month to finish a chapter, depending on how long it is. Is this faster or slower than average?

right now, with my book, it's about that time (perhaps a bit longer) per chapter, though it's a gruelingly slow pace for me. I'm intermittenly caught in the throes of writer's block, and it's slowed things down a little. usually, though, i take about a month (can't say i write as many pages as you do, though. impressive drive!).
also, i don't think there's an average chapter length (and therefore, an average time spent on the damn things), really. i prefer shorter chapters but have sealed my fate as a hypocrite by writing fifty + page chaps. but what can you do. writing is writing.

That depends on whether or not you're James Patterson and you write chapters less than two pages long. I try and mix up long and short chapters, but I do write a certain number of hours per day. I average 2000 words a day or maybe a bit more. I think you are on the slow side. But every writer is different. C.

In fact, in my current book, at least one chapter was started and finished within the span of a day.
But, my chapters are of wildly varying lengths too, I usually do six to ten pages a day, so, maybe three days for a chapter, at most, unless it's a big chapter.

It depends for me..sometimes I don't feel like writing. I am writing on one story right now...I don't really have chapters placed in it yet......Sometimes I can get 5 pages done in a day..and sometimes less than 5 sentences!

I get about half a page a day done on average. Everywhere from ten pages a day to nothing for a month is the range.

it depends on how long they are if they are short about 30 min and long about 1 hour
