Pack your egg into a milk carton, or something along those lines, stuff it with as much stuff as you can around the egg to protect it. i.e.: cotton balls, bubblewrap, anything that is soft and protective. Just make sure that the egg can't move.

When I did my egg drop experiment, I built a small compartment at the bottom of the container and put a small weight inside the compartment. Yes, this may sound strange, but it works. It allows the container to fall onto its bottom, not landing on the sides and making the egg more vulnerable to breaking. Don't put too much weight in it, you don't want to make it too heavy.

Also, you could build some sort of cradle to keep the egg suspended inside the carton, while packing the sides with different materials. I suppose it adds extra support for the egg so that it doesn't break.

Good luck!

Shoebox
Bubble Wrap
Foam
Cotton
"Peanuts" (the little foam things you use for packing)-
(optional)

Try to find the biggest shoe box you can get. Line the inside (including the top and bottom) with the foam. Next put the layer of cotton. Try to make it in like a cocoon form.
Wrap the egg heavily with the bubble wrap. then put the Peanuts in around all of the free space.... or you could use cotton. and BE SURE once the egg id inside to seal the box tightly with packing tape.

DO NOT FORGET THE TOP AND BOTTOM!!!

The reason this design will work, is because all the padding and what not will cushion the egg as it falls.

What I did was put the egg in a plastic baggie, then suspended it in the middle of a large cardboard box from all sides with rubber bands. Then fill the box with styrofoam packing peanuts. The egg bounces a little but within the box, so it never hits a hard surface.

Put the egg in a basket tied to a balloon filed with Helium. Make sure there isn't to much gas in the balloon. Ah aren't experiments fun.

I think acetylene is also lighter then air. You could probably go to a florist and get a balloon full of Helium.
