What's all the hype about? What's the big deal?

By that I mean, people act like if they don't get married that it is the end of the world or they failed somehow. Why do some little girls dream of having the perfect wedding? What's with all the hype?

Wasn't aware there was a hype about getting married considering that so many marriages end in divorce.
Edit: I see what you're saying now. I've once heard that every human being has the desire or purpose to reproduce, and I suppose marriage would be an integral part of this.
Some people believe that unless you're married, you're worthless, especially if you're a woman. That goes down in history. Even in today's world, old women who were never married are referred to as "spinsters" and "old maids".
Times are changing and not everyone is okay with the change.

Well I'm getting married on 7/7/07 and I'm excited but I'm more excited about the actual marriage than I have been about planning this wedding which has been a pain in the azz! But I didn't want to grow old alone so getting married works for me.

Well, I am married and I love being married. It's all about who your married to. I love having the companionship of a person...someone you can trust...someone who understands you when no one else does. I'm going to be honest, it's very hard work, but it's definitely worth it. Oh, I was a person who never thought I would get married. I also come from a very religious family.

I like the idea of having my own family because my worst fear is being old and alone.
However, all the extra stuff involved with getting married nowadays is unnecessary.
All that should matter is two people love eachother.

It's good for kids...but the concept is rather archaic.
