Matters on the job. I was a Recruiter for the USMC and we did juvi checks on all applicants. I would not mention it to the prospective employer, as you have not been convicted of the crime as of yet and you never know what the court is going to do.
It is nice to hear that you are worried, however. I heard so many youth when I was hitting the street for recruits that thought shoplifting "ain't no big deal". Sad to say, it was big enough of a deal to either out right disqualify them or require a waiver.
I think you are going to recover to have a brilliant future, as you seem to understand the gravity of the situation.
Good luck and God Speed.

Since you haven't gone to court yet, it's possible that a background check may not show the shoplifting incident. Most retailers don't run background checks on minors since most cases are expunged when you turn 18. I wouldn't worry about it right now but what you need to do is stop shoplifting. If you were 18 and did this, you would be screwed.......good luck!

Depending on the job you get they may or may not do a background check. If it's a high profile position, for example working in a bank, chances for a background check are high. If it's a position at a fast food restaurant, I wouldn't be too concerned. Nevertheless, hire an attorney and get the charge removed from your file after you turn eighteen or the charge may come back to haunt you.

Yes, she could find out if the job equires a background check. At the time of the interview, they may have you fill out an application asking if you have ever been convicted of a crime.
You an honestly answer the question, "No." Is it possible they may find out in a few weeks?
Yes.
But at this time, you have not been convicted of anything.
Good luck!
