You want to spend $300 for a very good CPU and you want to go cheap on a motherboard? That is like putting a NASCAR engine in a lawnmower. It might go like crazy, but a half gallon gas tank will not get you to the next gas station. I have listed below the MOBO I would use with that CPU.
Don't forget a good SLI rated PSU. and if you are going SLI make sure it is dual rail and no less then 600 watts.
EVGA is to me the best as far as video cards. Lifetime warranty and 24x7 phone support.
I could go on, but I digress. I just happen to build computers as a hobby.

Asus boards are generally good, but I would need more evidence before buying any SLI board. My son bought a Core 2 Duo PC using Asus PSNSLI with NForce 570 chipset. Some of my memory benchmarks obtained disappointingly slow results on this - (might need a BIOS update?). Another set of results using the same CPU model and Asus P5B VM with Intel 965 chipset produced the best memory speed results I have.
Benchmarks (free) and results reports are available from:

If you want SLI you don't want a real cheap motherboard, because what's the point of having SLI if your motherboard can barely run it??. Anyway for Nvidia SLI , you may want to look at the Asus P5NSLI. It's not expensive ( $100) and it's a real good motherboard.

My best suggestion for a cheap motherboard that still has all the features you need, i would go with this one. Its $20 less that the ASUS, then you get back another $10 with a rebate. It has SLI, supports Core2Duo, even a Optical S/PDIF out. Its more than you'll need, but its still significantly cheap compared to others.

ASUS P5NSLI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI Intel Edition ATX Intel Motherboard
id definitly consider this one, for about $15 less, though the one you chose is pretty good too
