Say that during the baby boomer generation we had more children enrolled in school then we do now. (Fact)
And we had less teachers (Fact), less taxpayers (Fact), and less taxes towards schools (Fact), and a higher pupil to teacher ratio (Fact).
The children coming out of the schooling system in America were well prepared and rated high in the international community (Fact).
Then why are we having all these problems both financially and education wise in our educational system, if all of the things said before are true?

Inflation has already been taken into account so don't answer the price of everything has gone up. The cost of education as relevant to everything else has gone up. As in property tax percentage.

Because Salaries have gone up!! The Cost of living has gone up. The cost of education has gone way up. It use to cost 25 cent for a chow main sandwich at one time now it costs 2.25 for the same.
Also modern technology!! It costs for computers etc.

Not a very scientific diatribe!
The children were well prepared! No they weren't!
You don't want to pay teachers! Today it takes a Master's degree ( which can cost $60,000 dollars) to get a decent paying job you can live on, and most people are lucky to even have a high school diploma, much less a 4 year college degree (which can cost 1/4 million dollars)!
Money went a lot farther! Houses cost $40,000 then, not cars.
Smarter? I don't think so! Ninety percent of the scientist to have ever lived on the face of this planet are still alive and one of these stupid people you are talking about is going to find a cure for cancer and for most genetic disorders!
Kids back then didn't know much about DNA, RNA, cell function, bone marrow transplants, open heart surgery is common place! Transplantation, if done at all during the baby boomers time, was limited to kidneys, now they are doing heart and lung transplants. Have drugs (emzymes) which can stop the progession of damage from an MI.
Actually, it is a miracle that teachers even want to teach! I remember when Ronald Reagan wanted to do away with the US Dept of Education and wanted to make ketchup a vegetable in school lunches! Their pay still is generally less than a child care center charges per child!

People graduating school at the time where well prepared to get a job in a factory which was pretty much a standard job at the time. Manufacturing in America is on the decline. You need a better education than in the past to even survive in this economy.
And as to the cost of education then and now. Well in the past, women dominated school teaching and it was accepted practice to pay women considerably less. It now is no longer accepted.

Because it is 50 years later and the the times have changed to include technologies that weren't available back then. We have to keep up with the changes in the world and it is expensive to do so.

Because our public education system is more concerned now about not offending anyone and not hurting anyones feelings than actually teaching. Plus, not punishment in schools, crazy teachers unions and sense of entitlement by teachers and students.;

Ask the creationists. The prevalent mindset in 50% of the community is education is wrong because it holds such facts as evolution to be wrong.......

1- lack of resources. they still had books and supplies back them. we don't
2-IQ. now we try to get low iq kids in hard class or high iq kids in easy classes. they need to be seperated so both can excel and learn at their own levels.
3- stupid requirements. we need to stop making kids take classes that don't benefit them in the long run. more kids graduate late due to failing gym than because of their work in other classes

Blame it, if you must place blame, on the boomer generation itself. They haven't instilled the same values in their children that their parents instilled in them.

What does this have to do with liberals? Last I checked, we haven't been in power in six years.
