I predicted 3 even though I didn't really think he deserved any. 5 games seems harsh. Thoughts??????????

Also, for those of you that like to compare what happens on the street to what happens on the ice (which is silly) he could plead self-defense.

Actually Lidstrom-Modano did hit him in the back but it was the high part of the stick that made contact.

Yeah...5 is harsh. Ray Emery from the Sens got 3 for his crazy slash to the face of a player with his goalie stick, but Tootoo gets 5 for a punch? Colin Campbell is losing it....

I think 5 is fair... a little on the harsh side but Tootoo has a sketchy history of stuff like this. This is also different from your run of the mill hit... I mean Tootoo did not try to grapple, as almost player would have done, he drew his arm back and punched Robidas. IF he dropped his gloves then MAYBE we could make the argument that Robidas should have known that the fight was going to happen... there is a unwritten code of these things that Tootoo does not seem to honor. Maybe Robidas approaching was too fast to drop the gloves but either way he should have grappled and jawed and then drop the gloves if he wanted to punch.

One answer mentioned Modano too. I am not really bothered by Modano's slash to the back. It maybe should have been penalized but a suspension? C'mon, it was a one-hand slash out of frustration after he saw a team-mate flailing on the ice. Its no comparison to what Tootoo did.

I'm a Stars fan so I am a little partial. I agree with a suspension but I think the NHL should be more consistent. Like the one person said " Ray Emery from the Sens got 3 for his crazy slash to the face of a player with his goalie stick" . That seems a bit more harsh than just a punch. I am still surprised that Robidas got a charging penalty but Modano received nothing. But I think when your a teams top player sometimes those things are overlooked. Also he is not known for his aggressiveness or fistiness, I think with all of the unsportsmanlike play here lately the NHL is going to make some examples of people to try to put an end to it.

I think 3 would have been okay but I am happy with 5 because I don't like Tootoo.

Jeffs--Modano did not slash Tootoo in the back, he took a two handed swing just like Simon did, only difference is he didn't make contact. Even if he had, nothing would have happened to him, he is a star--and I'm not referring to the team he plays on.

Tootoo punch was cheap, but am I the only one who saw Modano lumberjack Tootoo in the back??? Modano's swing was intent to injure and he should have been suspended to take also. The NHL needs to show these guys you can't take wild swings with your stick and get away with it.

Honestly, he flat-out sucker punched Robidas in the face. If you don't think he deserved any games, then you would have me believing that your opinion is biased (favoring Nashville of course).
