There are two types of "white" gold: one mixed with cheaper metals (silver) and one mixed with a nicer metal (palladium from the platinum family). The silver alloy will have to be rhodium plated about once a year to keep it white. The palladium alloy won't, but it won't be a bright white either, but almost a grayish gold (often called grey gold in Europe). Most jewelers only use the silver alloy because it is cheaper and the jewelery will last a long longer. The palladium alloy is much softer and is only used in high jewelery.

Yes, definitely. My engagement ring is white gold and I started noticing it turning yellowish. I brought it into the jewelers and they said that I needed to get it "dipped" again. All white gold is yellow gold to start. I never knew this!! It is just dipped in the "white gold" color so it looks silver. A jeweler will cover the diamond or jewel and then physically dip the ring into the white gold color. They suggest getting it dipped once a year. Bring it to a jeweler and they will do it for you.

Nope. You'd have to melt it down. White gold is an alloy of pure gold and a white metal like silver.

white gold rings aren't actually white gold. they are gold dipped and pretty much plated. thats why white gold turns yellow over time and you have to get it re-dipped. so yes, you can.

Yes, it is possible. Just tell the goldsmith, they will do it for you.
