My comp says i have like 100mb left on my C drive when in reality that's not true, i have more like 30 gb free. Also when I went on disc defrag it showed literally 99% of my files in red(meaning their fragmented). So i guess I know the problem, i just don't know the solution. Virus and adware problems didn't help.

Did you try to do a defrag? If you have fragmentation like that, it may very well be the problem.. Also it may depend on what youre trying to do that is giving you the error?

your files jsut might be so fragmented up that you cant defragment to bring down the space taken up on your HD, just take some of your media and put it somewhere else real quick (use a flash drive just to take off a couple of gigs, a 2 gb drive is $30 at most computer stores) then defragment from there, put the media back on, and defrag again... if that doesn't work, you might just be using more disk space than you thought.

If your computer says that your hard drive has 100 MB left, then it REALLY has 100 MB left.

I don't know why people seem not to believe this simple statement but a customer of mine had faced the same problem and we tracked it down to an excessive usage: too many MP3, video files, documents, etc.

Check your My Documents folder for excessive usage. Also, try to uninstall some games (games usually occupy A LOT of disk space, upwards to a few gigabytes for some games). And, finally, buy a bigger hard drive.

Curiosity: Windows Vista alone takes 15 gigabytes of hard drive space after installed.

You might have 30GB free, but all of those fragments are taking up the space. Defragment your drive immediately. Note: by the amount of fragments you describe, this may take a few HOURS.

Here is a quick fix to get some disk space back:

- Right click on the desktop. Click Properties.
- Click the Screen Saver tab and click Power.
- Click the Hibernate tab and uncheck Enable Hibernation.

This will give you at least 700 more megs free.

if you have Windows 98 or xl go to your start button on the bottom left click on "accesseries" and go to "system tools" click on disc defragmenter or disk clean-up. Then follow the instructions.
