While zoo's are holding animals captive for human entertainment, they are also displaying the animals for conservation and research reasons as well. Most zoo's have breeding programs set up for animals and all zoo's educate people about the conservation of animals. If zoo's weren't around to educate people and conserve animals, there would be many more extinct species.
Circuses and cosmetic research are two examples I could think of at the top of my head of wild animals being used for human entertainment. However, the animals that we eat are also being held captive.

Elephants and other circus animals. Lots of people don't think about it too much anymore, but those animals are treated very poorly, aside from being slaves.
Puppy mills...this isn't precisely for human entertainment, but they are places operated by greedy, ambitious, uncaring individuals who want to produce as many puppies to sell as they possibly can. They are normally a factory-like environment, just enough food to sustain the breeders...and the mothers are killed when they're no longer able to produce puppies.
Some people also breed pit bulls specifically for illegal dog fighting. They make 2 of the animals face eachother off and fight until one is overcome completely by the other. People watch and bid on the winner.

PETA examples...
Yes PETA. PETA uses animals to promote their ideas. Example, when PETA releases animals held captive on one of their 'raids' they forget the animal no longeris able to take care of itself in the wild and therefore ends up perishing.
PETA's actions could classify them as a terrorist organization.
Oh and someone answered 'Rodeos', well, they're wrong. If that was the case, the feedlots, farms, dairys, trailrides, horse owners are all holding their animals captive. Horses and cattle are 'food animals' and their usage is not in captivity.
