A watch can be a status symbol, like a car, house, jewelery, clothes, and even cell phone. My husband collects watches and I've been brainwashed into this group and only wear nice watches with mechanical movements (no battery/quartz watches). We get stopped all the time by older people (usually business men) who recognize the brand/model and we get into lengthy discussions about the mechanics, materials, and pure aesthetics of watches. It is amazing how many connections you can make with the right accessories.

Not usually. The only time I would wear a watch is if it was for a fashion purpose. Or you might be going somewhere that doesn't allow cell phones... take a camp for instance. Then would be a time to wear a watch. I think most people prefer not wearing watches, because it just becomes unnecesary when you have a cell phone. =)

I don't. I usually just take out my cell phone to check the time. But there's a lot of people i know who have cell phones, but still wear watches.

of course! a watch can be as much of an accessory as earrings or a great bag! Also, cell phones may constantly be updated, but a timeless watch can last forever. I wear my grandmother's delicate gold watch that you have to wind up and get compliments on it all the time!

I still wear my watch. It is like a bracelet. But I also don't want to dig into my purse to check the time, when I can just glance down at my wrist.

Yes. Not only is it a piece of jewelery, but there are many times when you can't use your cell, and you need to know the time.
example: in a hospital,

i never look at the clock on my cell phone. I always look at my watch. Usually my phone is in my purse or pocket or somewhere inconvenient. i am more paranoid if I don't have my watch on than if I don't have my phone.
