Well I've talked to a few lesbians on the internet but I've never met with them face to face. I think it does work because almost everybody in the world uses the internet including lesbians and its a great way to interact with other lesbians. You can even meet with them too if you feel like you have that connection but just be careful if you do decide to meet with some one.

yes, my partner and I met on planetout personals...we'll be together 3 years in May, and we are registered domestic partners and we've had a commitment ceremony. we have lived together for 2 1/2 years, and we're very happy!
(my ex and I also met online in a chat room. it was long distance, and even though we were "together" over 5 years, the long distance thing, among other issues, didn't work out).
