Hi sdawg,

You are better off with XP. A Celeron processor will be worked to death trying to runn Vista and you would need at least 2 Gig of RAM.

You can't download Windows Vista for free from the Internet. You can only purchase the Operating System by ordering it online or buying it from a certified retail store. But you can change the theme of XP to Windows Vista making it as if you actually upgraded to Vista. Now, downloading a Vista Theme is free. Downloading any Operating System from the Internet is not free.

you won't be able to acquire Vista for free, and it is going to reason your workstation to finish poorer. Vista takes up virtually 10GB of hardpersistent after its put in, and it gained't even deploy on a partition that has below 22GB of free area. it really is a source hog, and also you should have a minimum of 1GB of RAM. if you're taking instructions at a school it extremely is a member of MSDNAA, your instructor can grant you with a duplicate of Vista corporation and a respectable Key. I provide it to my scholars in the journey that they prefer it, and in the journey that they've a device that ought to run it. I run XP on one hardpersistent and Vista on yet another. I definitely have 2GB of RAM, and a quickly workstation. I swap between both on bootup (utilizing the CMOS to verify on which HD i wanna boot into). I not often use Vista now, because i'm a gamer, and in view that it in simple terms does no longer have sufficient uumph to cajole me to run it. actually, you're more advantageous powerful off with XP.

You used to be able to while it was under Developer's License. Now there is now way to legally get free Vista. Why would you want Vista anyway. Google "Buy Vista" hits 3,4,5 are all lists of why not to use Vista. And get a real CPU while you're at it.

No, you can't. MSFT is betting too much on it's success to give it away.

Depending on the rest of the specs, your laptop may be borderline for Vista anyway. Check the MSFT web site to be sure.
