I have a Dell Dimension 2400 with a Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.66GHz processor, 37GB hard drive and 128MB ram. It's supremely slow. I've eliminated all unnecessary processes, fragmented the drives and emptied the temporary internet files. What else can I do to speed it up? Also is this a pretty standard computer or a crappy one?

It is not standard for a 2.66 Ghz processor to have only 128 megs of ram. If you upgrade your memory to 512, your computer will be a lot faster. It you upgrade your memory to 1 gig, your computer will be super fast.
Also, make sure your computer has enough free disk space, anything less than 3 gigs free could slow some things down.

You did not say what connection you have.Dial up will always be slow.Your ram also needs to be upgraded but I think you can only double what you have up to 256 and that is still not much by todays standards.Personally I have never liked Dell computers.I have owned one and it has by far been my worst one.

you want to study what's starting up at the same time as homestead windows a lot up, you may start by ability of clicking start up>run and style in the run field msconfig>enter, from there you'd be able to work out what's operating in the history and making use of up elements, you may untick courses this manner they received't immediately start up at the same time as homestead windows begins, best now to not quit anti virus/antispyware/firewall, those are necessary to start up to save the equipment secure, yet you may nicely be shocked what's loading immediately, they sit down there taking on needed memory, and therefore gradual the equipment down, you may also click the amenities tab if you're there, positioned a tick in "hide Microsoft amenities" you'll then be left with non Microsoft amenities, which a number of them you would possibly want to disable, with the exception of the usual anti virus and so on, after that click follow, for ameliorations to take impression you may ought to restart the equipment, also do no longer quit your information superhighway connection, different issues to attempt is a sturdy defrag, disk freshen up, test for viruses/spyware and so on, an infection can gradual issues up, provide those a attempt, see if it speeds issues up, if no longer stick some more beneficial memory in there, by ability of a procedures the most inexpensive decision.

You really need to upgrade the ram, 128MB is real low, most computer theses day have 512MB or more. Also virus's and spyware slow your computer down as well.
