From a practical standpoint, I have a tendancy to overthink just about everything.
I've spent hours answering some questions. I think I spent at least ten minutes on the last one... and I may go back and edit it again to clarify some points further.
But that does beg the question, 'is this really OVER-thinking?'. After all, it could be argued that just about any amount of thought is not excessive as long as it doesn't prevent other options and continues to lead to better understanding. There is naturally a certain point of diminishing returns in most enterprises, but it's my experience that almost any topic could easily be worth weeks, if not months, of consideration. What keeps me as terse as I am is the opportunity cost of going on at such length.
Rats. I'm doing it again, aren't I? ( :

I think that it depends on what someone's interpretation of "overthinking" something is.
I try to answer each question that I want to answer in the most concise, detailled way possible and this usually makes my answers long compared to everyone else's.
Almost every question I've answered, I came back and edited my answer and my edit sometimes ended up twice as long as my original answer.
I've done this for this question, too.
I usually do this because my final answer usually takes long enough to write that by the time I submit it, it's at the bottom of a long string of answers and few people get to actually read my answer at the bottom.

Well, it takes some 15 minutes.... and... yes I did think over it.
It was made in Portuguese and about how to know when a univesity is good or not, what elements should one take into consideration to value that (and to decide which one to get in).
I think I did a good job with my answer because, you know, I work on a academical environment. So I had what to say.
But there are other questions that really make me think over them, seriously.
That one was a practical one. The ones from the philosophy thread are better to us to think over ...
Well, that's it.
Bye! I gotta go.
