Okay, I have a friend "Clarence" we are friends online and in real life. Recently, Clarence and I got into an argument because he tried to "make peace" with me and my worst enemy "Hildegaard". Hildegaard said some really horrible things about me and I in turn said things to her, Clarence did nothing. He didn't stand up for me to Hildegaard but instead tried to make it seem as if I had asked for it, that somehow I had been mean to Hildegaard first. He even suggested I "make peace" with her when I have clearly said I don't care what Hildegaard thinks of me and if I did, I would not need him to help mend fences, I could do just find by myself. He has made me feel like a monster for wanting loyalty from him, for wanting him to stand up for me and for not caving in and making peace.

What should I DO?

Well..try what he suggested first and if that doesn't work then Hildegaard shouldn't be your friend

Well I don't think you did anything wrong either. Seems like Clarence should feel bad for not standing up for you when he should have. Hildegaard seems like a very mean person who likes to start mess. I agree, you shouldn't worry about her and neither Clarence. You should stick with the friends who really care about you and are willing to do whatever they can for you. If you and Clarence are close friends though like best best friends then I believe your friendship will get through this. That's how you'll be able to tell if he is a true true friend or not. Hope I helped you and good luck with everything. ~Nina~

Just do what feels right to you. You don't have to feel bad for something that wasn't your fault. If this person is immature enough to say these horrible things instead of trying to be civil, then she's not worthy of your friendship anyway. Just ignore her and try not to bring her up around Clarence. And this Clarence doesn't seem very loyal if he won't stand up for you.

Well, stick by your guns with Hildegaard - (tell me that is NOT someone's actual name. Poor kid!) Anyway, Clarence doesn't have to show his "loyalty" to you if he is friends with both of you. You should admire the quality he has that he can separate your friendships.....but you didn't do anything bad. And the only person that can make you feel bad is you. Besides, you should feel good YOUR name isn't Hildegaard!!!! Do her parents hate her???

Make it clear to Clarence that you will choose who you want to be friends with, and if he can't accept that then he needs to really examine his friendship with you... If he wants to be friends with this other person, that you won't stop him. But he can't force the friendship down your throat.

Friends have a way of saying things we don't want to hear sometimes. If he is your friend, then leave him out of your argument, don't even mention it to him. Just go on with your life.

you have to understand by two of his friends not getting along and BOTH of you wanting him to take your sides, you have put him in a awkward position, Give it time, Dont feel bad, we all want loyalty from our friends, but try seeing things from his prospective and maybe you;ll get a better idea WHY he made the decisions he made.

He doesn't sound like a very nice friend to me, if what you are saying is the whole story, if not maybe he is irritated about the whole thing and doesn't want to get involved.
