yes, i got away with so much from 13- 16
but in a way it kinda helped me
because my mum didnt care what i was doing..i kinda got it all out of my system
i got bored of all the things i was doing, and now i am a very straightened out young girl

its kinda like "been there, done that, aint going through it again"

if she had to tried to refrain me from all the activities i was doing, i would have rebeled even more and probably still be in the same stage now, but no instead i am a little angel now :)

Yes, I do think they get away with too much, and the reason is who is there to teach them, right and wrong. Who is there to teach them correct considerate manners? Who is there when they are little to read the nursery ryhmes and just read to them before sleeping? The mothers are all off working, sometimes competing with their husbands, and when they get home, read all the darn mail, do they cook, or do they bring home "take out", do they set the table and show their children table manners and how to use the utensils so they don't make ignorant fools out of themselves when they actually go out into the World? The parents haven't time to teach them anything, they eat out of a box standing up watching TV.
The mother is on the phone, or washing the clothes, etc.
Gone are the days when the little darlings came home to the smell of home cooking and the mother welcoming them, making sure they wash their hands have a snack (none fattening, because kids today are usually over weight and prone to high blood presssure, cholesterol, and diabetese) and prepare to do their homework before 'daddy' comes home when they all sit at a well set table and have dinner together. They, the kids today are almost neglected. It is almost a Motherless Country...in USA!

Even though I am a kid, I think that kids get away with WAY too much these days! They go out and get pregnant, smoke some pot, grab some tequila, and then go stand on the corner with their thumb up. By the time some of them are older, they'll be all worn out!

Hell yes they do! I have 2 boys...12&6 who are polite, well mannered and considerate. But some of their friends are just hideous. No manners, rude and obnoxious. I am a firm believer in punishment for my kids when they "act up" but as another post said...some parents may be too scared to punish their kids due to kids having too many rights nowdays and parents having few rights at all. But on the flip side...I think some parents are just way too wrapped up in their own lives due to careers leaving the kids to raise themselves basically.

Oh heck yes!! Back in the day, parents would spank their kids when they misbehaved. Nowadays, no spankings, just time-outs. I hear kids cussing at school and skipping so much homework. It makes me sick. It seems like the parents don't "give-a-crap" anymore. It makes me feel sorry for those kids. They need a good role-model.

yes I do,and I believe in spanking, not beating, but discipline! You cant discipline anymore these days without going to jail or losing your kids, its freakin stupid and they teach your kids that in elementary. My opinion, thats why rates are higher on teen troubles,if they KNEW for a fact that they would get their *ss beat for doing something wrong, they sure would give it some thought, like in my day,I knew if I chose the wrong thing and got caught,I was looking at a belt woopin my a**,,I was never beat, and I only had it about 5x,after that,I knew right from wrong, lol

Kids will be kids, and i know sometimes they can do really stupid stuff, but thats just how growing up works you know, you make mistakes and then you learn and grow from them. Unless of course those mistakes are really really bad ones, but if they´re just kids messing about then i think its alright to cut them some slack, so long as cutting them slack would be of an advantage to their growth. So i guess, it really all depends on what they did, and who they are, and what tactic would be most suiting to teach them the right thing to do.

Absolutely. I've heard kids saying things to their parents that would've gotten me the belt in a heartbeat. I cursed at my mom ONE time and got my mouth washed out with dish soap. And I was absolutely never allowed to make a damn mess in a restaurant, which is another thing I see all the time.

Yeah, it sure seems like it. I know parents that totally spoil their kids. Plus kids don't seem to understand the difference between speaking their minds and doing whatever they want, and the meaning of freedom and it's responsibilities.
