y-y1=m(x-x1) m=slope and then put in your co-ordinates
y-(-1)=2(x-(-3))
y+1=2(x+3)
y+1=2x+6
y=2x+5

Linear lines are written in the form y=mx+b, where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept
In this case since slope is give then m = 2.
Then the equation is
y = 2x + b
To find the y-intercept, just sub in the point (x,y) for the x and y in the equation.
-1 = 2(-3) + b
b = -1 + 6 = 5
Therefore the Equation is y = 2x +5
Check to see if the answer is correct, sub the point back into our finished equation.
-1 = 2(-3) + 5
-1 = -1
Therefore left side = right side and we have the correct answer.

y = mx + b, where m is slope and b is y -intercept. Plug in what you know, and solve for what you don't.
-1 = (2)(-3) + b
-1 = -6 + b
5 = b
y = 2x + 5

for y=mx+b
m=slope
b=y intercept
x and y are just coordinates.
