So, god wants me to just pretend to believe in him so that I don't go to hell?

I can't force myself to believe something is true.

I can pretend...but if all god wants is for people to go around pretending to believe and worshiping out of fear...even if he *is* real, I wouldn't worship someone like that.

My friend u got it wrong, Bible hell is nothing but a common grave of mankind where both good and bad people go when they die, while awaiting Resurrection, both hades and Sheol, in GREEK AND HEBREW mean the same thing, which is grave or pit as some bible translation put it.David, moses, Lot,Abraham, Daniel and others are still in hell, which is the grave to be resurrected after Armageddon to enjoy a paradise earth ps 37 v 9,10 &29.

Not all religions believe there's no way out of hell.

In Islam, hell is a temporary spot for most people who are sent there. They eventually get out after they've been punished enough.

In Buddhism, "hell" is a karmic consequence, but if you stay there long enough, you can usually burn off enough of your karmic debt to get reborn in another form or go to another level of consciousness.
