Before we went on a ride yesterday I checked the atv's oil, and it appeared to be low, so I added. But then I checked it and it seemed to have to much. I thought that too much oil would just cause some smoking, but a friend said it could, in fact blow the engine up, I don't see why it would, just need some reassurance.

i own a shop,,and yes the same principal applies to an ATV as a car too much oil in anything isn't good for it ,it causes seals to blow out,and you wind up with a lot of leaks on it,id get some of it out of there ,before it did cause some damage to something, good luck i hope this helps.

Depends on how much over. Too much can be harmful, or very harmful, if its just a smidgon above the dipstick Full level, then I wouldn't worry about it (depending on engine size amount over will vary, anything above a 1/4 - 3/8 of an inch I would say is too much, depending on the engine. small engine, less leway, large engine, more room.) if its quite a bit over the Full level, then I would drain some and adjust accordingly (no matter what engine size). Too much oil is just as harmful as not enough. And the measurements are for Automotive engines, and not ATV's and even then, its debatable on if its ok or not.

most modern ATV engines are engineered poorly. if you have to much oil, it forces it up the breather, and in the air filter box. Once here, it seeps into the top end of the engine, or the combustion chamber. This causes it to run very poorly, and many people assume there rings are bad, so they get it rebuilt. All you need to do is open the air box, clean out the oil. Change the spark plugs, and clean up the air filter.

Best of Luck!

Its not good to run to much oil. Its just to much stress on the engine with all that oil in there. Blow up your engine? It could possibly. It will run like crap! Make sure when you do and oil change or add oil you bike is level and cold (not been running)! Good luck

Tea tree oil is a safe, natural antiseptic. It's fine to use a little on an acne spot. The only thing some people don't like about it is the smell.

If you put too much oil in a 4 stroke engine the bottom of the main crank will hit the oil and aerate it, air bubbles are not very good at lubricating and yes you could blow the engine.

Way to much can raise the oil level to the crankshaft and foam up the oil, wrecking the engine.
