Barbados is by far one of the better islands in the Caribbean its ranked third out of 160 nations, in terms of quality of life, per capital income is 17,300 Barbados dollars, dollar US 1= 1.97 B dollars, beau ti ful people, amazing culture,a bit expensive but worth it,98.9% literate in population, 10.7% which is a bit high in unemployment(something to think about),intern ate and communication no problem, well developed, highly dependent on services, but also strong in manufacturing. Big boom in housing construction and construction industry overall.energy is not cheap even though Barbados has some considerable amount of natural Gas and oil reserves off shore and in production.
Great Beach's,good weather, around 75 F to 80 F,average rain fall less than 2000mm a year.Water shortage can be a problem if there is a pro-long period without rain fall,as Barbados is made up of lime stone which dose not retain water very well,as it is very porous.however ground water is more widely used, from man made aquifers.

I live in Barbados
Its a great holiday island but is small and claustraphobic.21 miles by 14. The locals are friendly but insular. Unless you have a job or want to retire in the sun dont go.Its expensive. Bajan society is still very much divided on the black/white lines although this is changing slowly.Beware of the police, police brutality is one of Barbados best kept secrets.
Boredom is an important factor but if you like golf and have plenty of money its the place for you.

Unless you have a tie / conncection to Barbados, it is very difficult to move here, as you will need a permit to stay more than 3 months and they are not easy to get.
Getting a job is even more difficult as locals get first pick.
I would strongly suggest that you come for a visit to see if you really like it before you make any big decisions.
Then explore getting a visa and so on.

I have lived here all my life and it is very modern compared to the rest of the Caribbean so if you are looking for island life, another island would be better.
But if you are looking for a lively cultured mecca with modern amenties, then Barbados is for you.
