rizal is chosen by the american imperialist forces to signify a pacifist leader or example of people who can be easily manipulated thru education, while bonifacio is the opposite one , the one who truly reperesent the filipino people, who will fight with great courage and bravery.

His novels and his death are considered catalyst for revolution.
The idea of Rizal brought about the idea of unity as a nation among Filipinos. Rizal did not simply identify himself with one group of revolutionists. There were several militia groups in those times - each had their own way, plan, leader and agenda.

But it was not just the Filipinos who decided on this, even foreign powers had a role to play on his choice as the National hero. He was chosen above The Plebeian Andres Bonifacio, because he is a pacifist. They want to inculcate in (or should I say hypnotize) the minds of the Filipino people that we should always fight our battle peacefully even when already downtrodden. We were conditioned to think that way. So, the choice was one with intelligence but with very reasonable approach to fighting. That's the real reason why.
