Do you mean the stone present in Yellowstone National Park?
Naturally occurring rocks there are either basalt, rhyolite, rhyolite tuff or obsidian.

The altered rhyolite lava flows are believed to be the yellow rocks that gave Yellowstone River it's name (translated from a Native American name). The National Park is, of course, named for that river.
Rhyolite is a felsic rock, meaning it is rich in silica and aluminum. It is very similar to granite, except it has smaller grains.
