Go to www.ddr.com ,click on Anderson, SC and you will see that Anderson Crossroads Plaza is abandoned, except for 3 businesses. I realize Wal-Mart wanted to upsize to a supercenter, but why?

Wal-Mart does this frequently when they want to expand a store. Generally they will take a lease for 7-10 years with an option to buy. When the lease is up they will either purchase the land or move depending on the needs of the market. If they move the new store is never built too far from the present location. Don't worry usually these buildings don't stay vacant for long. The new Wal-Mart they are building will attract tenants for the empty space.

I often wonderted myself. I've seen co's pour a lot of money into remodeling, only to close it later on.

In this case, they moved to a better location, which should generate more sales.
Please realize that to a co like Walmart, shutting down a building that costs, say 5 million to build, is pocket change compared to their annual revenue, which is in the billions.
