x/0.4=2x+1.2

multiply by 0.4

x = 0.4(2x + 1.2)

x = .8x + 0.48

combine like terms

0.2x = 0.48

divide

x = 2.4

You had spring break already? Lucky... I still have to wait 2 more weeks.

You need to isolate the side with the X to find it on its own, so subtract 2x from each side. You get:
-x/0.4=1.2
Multiply each side by 0.4 to finish isolating the X.
I'm not multiplying 0.4 by 1.2 for you because that would be too much and a little bit of cheating. Then, put the final answer in negative(because the X is still negative).

I'm in geometry, maybe im getting a little rusty at Algebra...

i prefer to work with fractions.
.4 = 2/5
.2 = 1/5

x/2/5 = 2x + 1 1/5
5/2 x = 2x + 1 1/5
5/2 x - 2x = 1 1/5
1/2 x = 1 1/5
x = 2 2/5 = 2.4

multiply by 2.5 = 1/0.4
x = 5x + 3
4x = -2
x = - 1/2

x/0.4=2x+1.2
x/0.4 - 2x = 1.2
x(1/.4 - 2) = 1.2
1/.4 = 2.5
x(2.5 - 2) = 1.2
x(.5) = 1.2
x=2.4

x/0.4 = 2x+ 1.2 put both x's on one side
*x *x
---------------------
0.4 = 3x +1.2 - 1.2 from each side
-1.2 -1.2
---------------------
-0.8 = 3x divide 3 from both sides
/3 /3
---------------------
--
-2.6 = x
