you need an x-ray to be sure. Also, damage to the tendons or ligaments are likely. You need to have a professional examine it. There are a few but possibly serious complications that can develop so get it checked. Hope this helps.

Whether or not it is broken, the first aid is the same... ice it 20 min on and 20 min off a few times to see if that reduces pain/swelling. Use gauze and medical tape to tape the big toe to the one next to it, kind of like a splint. That is all a hospital would do. Rest it, keep it elevated, and never wear that nasty shirt again!

PS - Doesn't sound like a fracture. But a bad sprain may as well be a break...

The usual rule of thumb is if ya can bend it, it isn't broke. Although I have broken a toe before, and the doctor can't really do anything about it anyway. You probably just sprained it.

Not even a doctor can say that with out looking at it and even looking at it he/she needs X rays to tell, so go to your doctor for a certain opinion.

Did you say you CAN put weight on it?
And bend it?
If so, likely NOT broken.
