I thought she's a good friend of mine. I'm married and my husband's out of the country at the moment. She knows that but one day she said," I'm sure you've got a boyfriend." She didn't say why she'd say this. I guess it's only because she saw me twice dressed up and went out at lunch time. I don't have a boyfriend. I've been faithful to my husband all through this marriage. Actually I have only this ONE man in my whole life. Wasn't she mean to say this? Can't I dress up sometimes to feel good for myself even though my husband's not around?

set the record straight, first she is not a friend of yours if she will say it to your face its being said behind your back. Let your husband know what she is saying. You are allowed to do what ever you want and are not responsible to any so called Friend to inform her of anything. So, get dressed up get with your friends but do tell your hubby what this neighbor is saying.

For people brave enough to actually say stupid things like that, the quickest way to shut them up is to retort something back equally as rude. Because most people like that, are used to saying things like that, and getting away with it, and it totally blows them away when they are called on it. For example, next time she says, "I'm sure you have a boyfriend", try saying, "I'm sure your mother never taught you that it is RUDE to assume things about people, and try to make them feel bad when they're doing nothing wrong and you have no idea what you're talking about!"

Sounds like she's a buttinsky and you need to politely tell her to mind her own business. My husband was in prison for 14 months and I used to write to him and tell him, today I dressed up in your favorite dress bcuz I remember when I wore it to our anniversary dinner. Or I put your favorite negligee on and imagined you here, can't wait to feel you again. There's absolutely nothing wrong with dressing up, you are still young and full of life, you just need to tell her that what she said was wrong and that she should apologize otherwise you feel like it might jeopardize yuor trust in her. Then promptly write your husband and tell him what she said and how you responded. My husband was in the military, gone for months at a time and he didn't expect me to stop living, in fact he stood up to a wife in his unit when she tried to make trouble.

Doesn't sound like the kind of "neighbor" I would want to sit down and have a cup of coffee with, for sure. Live your life! It's NONE of Mrs. BUSYBODY'S business! Dress up if you want to...you KNOW the truth!

She probably said that because SHE has no self control. If her man were out of the country, she knows that she would be unfaithful, and assumes that everyone else is a tramp, too. I wouldn't pay attention to her. I hope you can work your friendship out.

She's just trying to pry into your life. Forget it. However. this does show you the level of trust she is able to handle.
