I am trying to put together some Australian 80's songs on a couple of CDs for my brother who has lived overseas for 17 years. You guys have any ideas?

Try some Roxy Music and Men at Work...also, you can find some of these folks...

In the 1980s, numerous innovative Australian rock bands arose. These included Hunters & Collectors, The Church, Divinyls, Hoodoo Gurus, The Sunnyboys, Men at Work, The Go-Betweens and The Triffids and far more innovative bands such as Mungabeans.

Some of these may be 70s/80s crossovers, but these are some of my all time favourites that i am sure your brother would enjoy.
ac/dc (obviously. who could be without the great Aussie band!)
Jimmy Barnes/Cold Chisel (esp working class man or Khe Sahn.)
Dragon - esp. April Sun In Cuba
Johnny Diesel and the Injectors - esp Crying Shame
Midnight Oil - my fave is Beds Are Burning
Skyhooks
Inxs - some excellent songs to choose from
Men At Work
Gangajang
Hoodoo Gurus
Crowded House
Hunters & Collectors - esp throw Your Arms around me
The Little River Band
Sherbet - esp Howzat - esp if he likes cricket!
Daddy Cool - Eagle Rock for sure
Mental As Anything
Rose tattoo
The Church
There are heaps more, i hope this is a good, thorough start!
Enjoy

itunes has a couple of albums available that deal strictly with Australian music. The album I tried is titled:

The Fable Years: Australian Music History 1970 - 1984

but they do cover other years as well. Check it out and see if it helps you.

Keith Urban is australian and is an awesome musician. But if you want 80's you will just have to look at some of his older music his music now is really good. :)
