The overall Canadian economy is strong and growing. Regionally there are differences. Western and Central Canada tend to be stronger than the Atlantic provinces. The west continuities to boom with Alberta Oil leading that province on. BC has a constructions boom going. This is partially due to transportation and facilities related to the 2010 winter Olympics coming to Vancouver. But housing also continues to grow as many Canadians look to BC to retire. The demographics of Canada means as the population continues to age, more and more people are retiring leaving jobs unfilled in coming years. Forestry and mining are also important to the west. The far north has taken on its own life with the fairly new diamond industry, added with a socially responsible product. Central Canada has more manufacturing lead by automobiles, buses, jets.
So true, Canada has a lot of trade with the US. But when the exports are topped by oil, electricity, transportation parts and house building materials, they will continue to rely on us no matter what their economy is doing. And as the US sends us hollywood movies, Big Macs and coca-cola we would probably be better off without their products.

Basically, Canada sits in the shadow of the USAs economic fortunes and misfortunes as there is a large amount of trade and not many barriers between the countries.
If you read a report about the US and divide it by 100, you will have a good idea what is going to happen in Canada.
