I have the Nforce sound drivers installed under Device manager, yes cannot start a song on Windows Media Player, or the Nforce application, error message sez sound device may be in use by other application. When run the Direct X diagnostics, sez no sound drivers installed. I tried cdplayer.exe in a dos window on an Audio CD, and it the player plays the song, but still no output through the speakers. Don't know where to turn at this point, and Microsoft no longer supports Win98SE.

I should add that I had already updated the BIOS to the latest and greatest version. The system does not have a seperate sound card installed in one of the extra slots, I am connecting to the "sound" port on the back of the computer, which is connected to the ASUS motherboard.
