Actually Steinbrenner wsnted to play himself in the series and was originally cast untill it was determined by Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David that he couldnt act so they used an actor to portray steinbrenner.If you by the box set they have an interview where they talk about how the yankees owner liked the charector

Steinbrenner was gonna be on the show but they decided to use actor Lee Bear and shoot from the back and use the voice of Larry David. it worked out well.
