GB makes a good point. It also depends on the size of the flats you'll be getting, and whether they'll be flowers or small shrubs. The usual flats I see at my local nurseries I believe are 18 inches square, so that's about 2 1/4 square feet. So, if you were talking solid groundcover packed edge to edge, that would be nearly 1500 flats. Expensive. But things like that are usually cut into plugs and spread out across the ground. It also depends on how many individual plants you'll be getting per flat, and how far apart the recommendation is for spacing them. Lots of variables.

Depends on the material of course. But I would say approximately 4 flats planted at equal distance
