Macs are easier to use - PC's have vastly more software and things available for them. I don't recommend getting one then switching to the other. Some people cant make the switch.

Microsoft's website states this as the #1 reason to get Vista:
#1. It makes using your PC a breeze.

Windows Vista features a breakthrough design and easy-to-use organizational tools that make it simpler to get things done and get on with life! Find what you need instantly, on your PC or on the web, with Instant Search. Bring more clarity to your tasks with the spectacular Windows Aero user experience and Windows Flip 3D, allowing you to see everything you’re working on at a glance.

Apple's site says this:
Get information with a single click. Mac OS X Tiger delivers 200+ new features which make it easier than ever to find, access and enjoy everything on your computer.

I have not used Vista yet, but I would recommend Mac.
I have been a windows user from the start, but because of its high learning curve, and it being error-prone, you should go with a mac.

I first learned on a Mac, and later moved to PC's. Although nowadays I wouldnt want the bill for the Mac computers, considering how expensive they are.

Macs and PC's both have their strengths and weaknesses. Mac's have become better for sound/video editing, whereas PC's are more user friendly for software and useability.

Welp, given the advances in the Windows-based OS's on the PC it is a wash in my opinion. (At least from the ease of use angle).

Personally, being a PC guy, I think if you were to learn the use of a computer from scratch, I'd recommend the PC mainly because of its proliferation over the Mac.

Yes, Apple folks are fanatical in their support, and yes the commercials showing Mac and PC are a riot, but in the end, PCs do dominate.

Just my 2 cents-
