I think the song you're looking for is named "House of the Rising Sun". It's an old folk tune, and I'm sure you'd be able to find any number of performers have made their mark on it; but the one that generally gets radio play was by a band called "The Animals." I hope this helps.

This song is by the Animals. Here are the lyrics. Is this is the song you're talking about?

There is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And God I know I'm one

My mother was a tailor
She sewed my new bluejeans
My father was a gamblin' man
Down in New Orleans

Now the only thing a gambler needs
Is a suitcase and trunk
And the only time he's satisfied
Is when he's on a drunk

------ organ solo ------

Oh mother tell your children
Not to do what I have done
Spend your lives in sin and misery
In the House of the Rising Sun

Well, I got one foot on the platform
The other foot on the train
I'm goin' back to New Orleans
To wear that ball and chain

Well, there is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And God I know I'm one

House of the rising sun. Eric Burdin and the Animals. Came out around 1966. This is one of the things I remember about the 60s. Ahhhhh, the good ole days, when the men wore the tatoos, and the ladies wore the earrings.

Your obviously confusing this so called "House of the Rising Sun," with Raisin in the Sun. It's some book or something. Get your names straight.
