My nieghbor wanted to build a fence, but he is inconsiderate, disrespectful, and a tight wad...so he waited until i and the owner of the house on the other side of him built privacy fences. After we paid $5,000 a piece having our fences built, he goes to lowes and buys fence panels and closes in the front and back now he has basically stole the sides of his two nieghbors' fences. I live in Gulf Co., Florida. Are there any laws that he may be breaking or anything i can do to him legally? My fence is on my property line, his fence isn't connected to mine, its like an inch from touching mine.

No. There's nothing you can do. It's his right to construct or not to construct whatever he wants on his property. Your fence was your choice, and his using it to close his yard in happens all the time. You wanted your fence and saw value in erecting it. The value to you has not diminished simply because he added onto it. If he planted a shade tree next to his property line, and you benefitted from the shade, you do not owe him either. This is commonly done and it's not worth getting agitated about. You have no legal recourse. When you built on your property line, you also built on his property line. That's how it works.

In the state where I live, you must build a fence one foot (I believe) on your side of the property line. You may both be breaking ordinances.

As long as he isn't breaking any covenants in your neighborhood and is building a fence on his side he probably has standing........You are both sharing a fence , you may not like the appearance of it and he may have gotten by with a cheaper design but it doesn't feel illegal........Contact your city planner for info.......

As long as your fence and your neighbors fence are on the property lines he can go up to them, but he can't attach to yours without permission.

Some people are like that, but as long as he didn't move it, he has the right to decorate his side anyway he wants. It called a good neighbor fence.

Okay, this can be tricky. First of all, is the fence (both sides) on YOUR property? If it is, yes! Its trespassing! If not, as in the fence is exactly on the line, then you can sue him for use of the fence. You can actually sue him for half of your expenses provided you still have receipts. Good luck!

You wanted a fence, and were willing to pay for it without his participation. That's what you got.

You aren't harmed by his actions.

Get over it!

As long as he doesn't attach anything to your fence, then he is not really doing anything wrong.

Actually it is pretty smart of him to do what he did.

Hope that helps.

Go to city hall and pull up the records/blueprints of the property lines for your house. If he's violating it you can take him to small claims court and have the judge force him to move it.

Also if you find that he's trespassing on your property line call the city and have them send officials out to force him to move it onto his property.
