well advantages are that it is safe and no one is made to feel different or is teased. It is sort of a Utopian Society. as for disadvantages... I'm not sure how many plausible ones I could give you. The people were happy, the communtiy was well run. The biggest disadvantage is probably that people have no individuality, no say in the government, they are lied to, etc. Still, not to seem weird, but to me the advantages are more solid than the disadvantages.
not that I'm hoping we would have a society like that or anything, cuz I'm not...

The interesting thing about Laundry's The Giver is that the advantages and the disadvantages are one and the same: there is no struggle in life or differences to overcome. In Johna's world, there is no unhappiness, but by default, no happiness.

well an advantage is that everything works without disruption you know how the seasons never change and there are no hills and no one gets sick during the winter
a disadvantage of having nothing enviromental change is that there isn't much to look at and the fun of winter isn't there
the whole world is in black and white, this is good because there is no preference to one thing or another so you choose something by it's brand and quality not because its your favorite color
as disadvantage of this is that there isn't any fun in looking at anything there is even a river or lake, but i forgot, and it doesn't even shimmer like it should because there is no color
uhmm i can't think of anything right away but good luck with whatever it is you're doing

It is all the balance between security and personal freedom. We are still trying to find that balance, and Moore's Utopia had the same issues, as did 1984 and Brave New World.
