over the last week I have come across quite a few things that were blocked but probably shouldn't be. I'll give two examples here. My school requires us to take an NSL Givernment class to graduate (National State and Local Government) And in it we study type of government in the US and other forms. Now the other day I was on google and typed in a search for anarchy which is a perfectly legit form of government. And it wouldn't even let me see the results. I forget the reason it gave but I'll look it up again tomorrow. Now I then tried the "I'm feeling lucky" link and that site was blocked. However it allows we to view democracy and other types of government. Is this a kind of discrimination? And in the USA aren't we supposed be allowed to have other opinions about government? And yet it blocks anarchy a very well known type of government. Then also I went on a few pagan/wiccan sites that I know to promote peace and no violence or anything. And lo and behold it was...

it was blocked and the reason it gave was "cults". So it seems that if you don;'t believe in god they consider your religion a "cult" This is definitely religious discrimination. They allow me to access christian jewish or even muslim sites but not wicca? And then they go as far as to say wicca is a cult? Is that right? So what can I do?

someone said it's not illegal and that it's just a firewall. SO then your saying that the fact that it allows me to access any religion that has a god but not access any religion that doesn't have a god perfectly ok? How is that a firewall? If they block one religion then they should block all. I mean it's the same thing as say blocking any christianity sites but allowing you to access muslim sites. or blocking jewish sites and letting you access christian sites. It a public school open to all kids of all backgrounds!
And as for filters... It just happens to only block pagan sites? Yet allow any other religion that has a god? How is that because it has a filter? I mean you go on a site where it lets you learn some history about wicca and the good it does in a non violent and non offensive way. Perfectly legit... And then it says it's blocked because it's a cult? So what they have a filter that when it sees the word pagan it will block the site and say cult?

Oh and I perfectly agree that school and stuff has a secret motive and such. I believe in many of the conspiracy theories. But every little bit of action done can help. So people rather then judging and saying it's illegal just tell me who I can go to and then I can decide for myself. Cause I can still try. It's what most people are to lazy to do...

That's part of the content filtering software your school runs. Not only is it legal, in many cases, it's a good idea (from a computer security standpoint) for them to have it.
The problem is, of course, with what falls into the category of blocked sites.
In many cases, sites aren't categorized by the school, but by the initial vendor of the software. They create huge databases of sites to classify "known sites", then use keywords to try to identify things that aren't in the databases. Sounds like your school chose one of the filtering programs that was coded a bit more overzelously than some of them.
Your best bet would be to find out who the security administrator is for the computer system, and ask what steps you can take to get a site removed from the blocked list. Most of the programs allow for administrators to change the categories for certain sites, or "whitelist" them, which will exclude them from the blocking.

The website filter blocks words found in the content of a webpage. The school is not doing anything illegal. You are perfectly capable of looking up this information at the local library or at home. The school only tries to error on the side of caution for websites...everything you read on the internet is NOT always true.

Religious discrimination IS Illegal.
If you can get your parents to back you up, you can petition your school, or even get an org like Lady Liberty League or AREN.org involoved.

I don't think it's illegal because the school feels like they are protecting you from entering certain sites. If you want to do the search of certain subject then use your own computer. If you really are concerned go talk to your teacher and counselors.

'King The Devil 666'? Yeah if I was a teacher I'd want to block that kind of website, if it influenced children that the devil is the king.

There is no one to report too. School don't teach all of the truth. They are designed and controlled by the big brother. They brain wash young students and prepare them to be soldiers and defend the wealth of the few.

This is not illegal, dear. It's called a firewall, and it's expected to be present on all school computers.
