That sounds so hypocritical doesnt it? When i asked her why she makes those remarks she said "well your old enough now to choose what you want" What the hell? I cant choose how i feel. Neither can she. I go through the trouble of coming out and i get people believing im bi??? When im not and now this.

Gay AND homophobic?

Hypocritical more like!

If you've come out to your mother, and she's come out to you (which she has) then her criticism is borne out of fear rather than prejudice.

She's feeling insecure and taking it out on you. Don't take it personally and try to help her through her issues, it will go a long way to helping you out as well.

Coming out is not an easy thing. Being gay in this day and age is easier than it was 10 years ago, but it's still no picnic. Since you're OUT, be on guard with your feelings, don't wear your emotions on your sleeve, because there are plenty of people that want you to either feel bad about being gay or to feel worse than they do (like your mom).

Has your mom been Out long? or is she Out? you may want to confront her and the two of you may need to get into a councellor. Remember she's the one with the issue, and she's the one who needs help. You're just co-dependant and her current punching bag.

Good luck

Things will get better. What you need to do is realize that if you let every single comment effect your mood for the rest of the day, you will never be happy. EVER! You were chosen to be gay because you are a strong person. The creature knew you can handle anything...... Take it as a blessing.... Your life is worth so much more than that.

Good Luck to you!

Just because someone is 'out' in terms of their sexuality, doesn't stop them from having the same fear and ignorance that prevails with true homophobes. Sometimes it is even more insulting, because we should know better! The best thing to do is to rise above it. Prove you are the stronger person by believing in who you are and not caring a jot for the hurtful and downright disrespectful comments others, your own mother included, might say.

It seems likely to me that regardless of what your mother has said -- she is not comfortable in her own skin. Another words, she may be gay -- but she isn't happy being gay. That is not uncommon among people who went into the closet to start with.

You on the other hand are comfortable being yourself -- and that's good. Unfortunately your mother is now "blaming" herself - since she is already less comfortable about who she is -- and attempting (subconsciously I would assume) to separate who you are from who she is so she feels less guilty about it.

Don't sweat it. Believe in yourself and push forward. Everything will be alright.

Maybe your Mother is comfortable with who she is and therefore is able to laugh at herself. What I mean is this: I am blond and yet I am not at all offended by blond jokes and find them funny. I am comfortable with who I am. I am sure she doesn't make these remarks to make you feel like "crap".

Your mother is probably disappointed in your situation. She'll come around. The rest of society may not be so forgiving, get used to it.

maybe you're mom is insecure with the fact that she's gay so she makes jokes to ease her confusion...
