It depends on whether or not they really believe in their religion. They can say they swear to God, but don't mean the truth, because they don't really believe in their God, otherwise they would tell the truth if they swore to their God.

no it definitely doesn't. it's a term used to manipulate people into thinking something is true. other examples are "cross my heart hope to die" which is used in Australian primary schools and "i swear on my mothers grave". do not believe something just because they have attached a cliche to it.

no they can still be lying. unless they are a priest or something but then again they would never use God's name in vain like saying "oh my god".

NO, most people think God and Jesus Christ are just sentence enhancers. If they knew "THEM" then they would not use such phrases!!!
